The Middle Ground
Where to find a little extra money without sacrificing quality. By in large, I'd like to think that most people are not extreme tree huggers or super-polluters. I think that most of us Americans fall right in the middle, maybe a bit more to one side than the other, but the middle nonetheless. So in product purchases, I think that most of us can really save some money. Most retail stores (even stores like Wal-Mart) have a three tier strategy. Private Label, Mega Brand(like P&G), and Mid-sized middle brand. Price is usually Private Label the lowest, the Mega Brand the highest and the midsized the middle. The middle brand is usually a national brand, but probably spends significantly less on marketing to make sure the quality is on par or better than the mega brands. I think its wonderful to support companies like these especially if they hold the qualities that we want in an American company, like products made in the USA and creating jobs in our cities.
For example, Baby Magic is a baby care brand that makes lotions and baby washes. Every store I have visited has this product priced more than the private label, but under the J&J products. If you dig into the manufacturing of this product you will find that it's done in Dallas, TX. Not only are the company hiring workers, but they actually buy the plastic bottles and components right here in the USA. Wow. How rare for a company these days. So if you buy one of their products, not only are you saving money, but you're also helping grown our economy.
Although I related this to my company, it really can be used in most parts of our purchasing. Next time you're in the store, think about it and see if you're helping a small business grow. Happy Holidays!

Political Commentary?
Political commentary? Probably not my forte and it's probably true that everyone has their own idea about government spending, but if owning a small business has taught me anything, you can't spend what you don't have forever. And if that is a true statement that everyone can agree with, then WHY are we not paying down the deficit? I completely understand that government spending spurs on the economy and blah blah blah, but isn't that like using a bandaid to fix a high pressure pipe leak? Although I have always thought this, I am particularly refering to the pending decision to use leftovers and profits from the TARP fund to temporary job creation in addition to what we have already said we would spend. That is like taking our a loan on a house, realizing you borrowed too much and using the left over to buy a diamond bra. (Reference to the new Victoria Secret Bra, actually the analogy would work better if the bra slowly dissolved over time) Why wouldn't you reduce your debt first?! Craziness. If you reduce the debt first then you can buy a fancy bra later if you so choose without the fear of a repo man, a Chinese Repo-man with many guns.

An Intro
Well, I'm not really new to blogging. Several years ago I used to blog quite often on sites like Xanga and even had a webpage on Geocities, back when people used to blog in HTML. Thinking back on that, I feel both old and silly, but I did have more time back then so I guess that explains alot.
I hoping that this blog is more of a product review type blog. Lately I've noticed quite alot of stuff coming out that's just not quite right and other things that are quite innovative. Just as a personal opinion, I don't really mind things that are made in China, and I understand that some things need to be made in China, but when the economy is like the way it is today (July, 2008), I think Americans should make a personal decision to buy American made products.
So thanks for coming by, I'll try to update weekly if not more often.
